AVOCLAP

Saturday 5th - Sunday 6th October 2024

Let’s play body music !

Description

AVOCLAP… An intriguing name, chosen mainly for the way it rings. What does it mean? You decide! Thinking with the right brain, the left brain? Let’s opt for balance. Did you know that one tool used to achieve this balance is improvisation?

This year is the first edition of AVOCLAP vocalimpro festival. Two days to try out or deepen your knowledge of vocal and physical improvisation. A joyful and friendly atmosphere created by well-known artists and experts from a wide range of backgrounds, languages and cultures all blended together.
Circle song is at the heart of this weekend’s activities. Collectively with our bodies and our voices, our differences, we will create an orchestra and let ourselves be carried away… Envisioning a social paradigm that values sobriety, collaboration and co-leadership, isn’t it what we need, what the world needs?

AVOCLAP… Also means EVOLVING.

Gaël Aubrit (FR)

Mattias Wyss & Annie Kummer (CH)

The programme

The workshops are given in the speaker’s native language. Let go of “thinking” and allow yourself to be carried away! (Rest assured, translation is available…)!

The levels specified for each workshop refer to the theme of each workshop. I.e. an advanced level in yodeling requires practice in yodeling, not in improvisation.

Saturday & Sunday 9h00-9h30 (all levels)

Let us close the day together with a circle song shared with all performers and participants.

Saturday & Sunday 18h00-19h00 (all levels)

An immersive experience bringing together performers and participants. This participatory circle song allows you to dive into a collective, creative and vibrant atmosphere. You have two options: letting yourself being taken by the circle energy by observing and listening or diving into the heart of collective improvisation by taking an active part in the circle.

Saturday 19h30-20h30 (all levels)

Workshops of Charles Raszl

Through a vocal and body percussion arrangement of a Brazilian song the participants will thus be inspired through an approach in which the body is at the same time a percussive, melodic and harmonic event that dances and brings individual and collective stories.

Sunday 9h45-13h00 (all levels)

In this workshop we will practice various Brazilian rhythms through body percussion and transcribe them into a melodic framework and overlap the voices to make a counterpoint harmonic, thus creating a Circle Song.

Sunday 14h00-15h30 (all levels)
Sunday 16h00-17h30 (all levels)
The two workshops are complementary. However, it can also be attended separately.

Workshops of Gaël Aubrit

Let’s begin our journey by making the circle feel like home! Gently warm up the body and the voice, connect with each other, build trust and safely improvise together. Learn how to better listen, to blend our voices, to stay present even when it gets challenging, and to better hold the circle at the service of the music.

Saturday 9h45-13h00 (all levels)

Discover the “fil-tapis-motif” system: three types of vocal patterns that help to improvise balanced arrangements, to change your habits and to develop more consciousness on various pattern characteristics.

Saturday 14h00-15h30 (all levels)

In this workshop we will play several games where we have to improvise patterns very quickly! It is fun, sometimes even exhilarating, and it is a very useful process, both for beginners to stop thinking too much and for advanced improvisers to become more fluent and to captivate their audience.

Saturday 16h00-17h30 (all levels)

Learn how to better transition from one musical atmosphere to the other when leading a circlesong, by smoothly changing time signature, chords or tonality, without ever stopping the music!

Sunday 9h45-13h00 (advanced)

« Suspendu aux lèvres » is a game with one person soloing and everyone else following their breath, volume and vocal timbre, while holding a single chord. It is a challenging game that requires to be fully present. In this workshop we will explore this game and some of its variations, enjoying the beautiful music and state of presence that may come out of it.

Sunday 14h00 à 15h30 (intermediate / advanced)

Enough with 4/4! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of “odd meters”, more specifically 5 and 7. Learn concrete tools that will allow you to identify odd meters, create vocal patterns and solo, until one day you become as comfortable in 5 and 7 as you are in 3 or 4.

Sunday 16h00-17h30 (all levels)

Workshops of Mattias Wyss and Annie Kummer

With Mattias & Annie
Dive with us into a world of music with the whole body! We sing melodies and play rhythms from our original song “Human Music”. We sing, accompany ourselves with body percussion and improvise. We will use our hands to clap, snap and pat… and even meet butterflies 🙂 The inspirations from the song and our playful, improvised body music activities let us celebrate musical encounters, mutual resonance and sound emotions: And it feels like we all are one!

We invite you to a body music journey on a “flying carpet” with our own orient-inspired song “Lailalalai”. Enjoy beautiful harmonies, haunting melodies and odd rhythms. We sing the song, accompany ourselves with body percussion (simpler rhythms, only “hands” or upper body percussion) and improvise over the harmonies.

The workshops “Lailalalai (Hands)” and “Lailalalai (Hands&Feet)” are complementary. However, they can also be attended individually.

In this workshop we start into the joyful and playful world of body rhythms. We start with the hands and upper body rhythms (without feet). We will clap, snap, pat and combine the body rhythms with our voices in spontaneous circles and improvisations. Do you have little or no previous experience with body percussion? Then this is the right place for you! No previous knowledge is necessary.

The two workshops “Get started with bodypercussion 1 and 2” are complementary. However, they can also be attended individually.

Workshops of Oskar Boldre

Just get involved, you have nothing to lose! the best way to prepare to improvise is not to prepare at all! we will practice exercises in the form of play, sacred and fun, developing flexibility and the art of contrasting and supporting others. The exercises are part of the method written by Oskar Boldre: Giocando la voce (Voglino Ed., 2021).

Saturday 9h45-13h00 (beginners)

New tools for your singing increasing dynamism, training in change, emptying out, surprising oneself and developing different ways of giving a solo. We will practice with different exercises focusing on the art of contrast: the ABA defective Band, Rhythmic and Melodic Gifts, Substitutions, Moved Triangle, Sequence for new solos … and synesthetic stimulations such as Olfattimpro, Tattimpro and Tellimpro with the intention of enriching your language, making the best use of vocal timbres as vehicles of emotions. Music exists to be discovered and not just to be repeated.
